Michael Baer is a seasoned attorney, with significant experience in insurance defense litigation, products liability, corporate law, labor law and risk management. He has business clients – local, regional and national – in a variety of industries, including insurance, manufacturing, food processing, fitness and automobile, as well as condominium associations. He has extensive experience drafting legal documents, motions and appeals, as well as developing and conducting employee training programs for his clients. Additionally, he has personal injury, collections and criminal law experience. Michael has served as a national speaker on legal topics within the food manufacturing sector.
Michael has deep roots in insurance defense, having represented many carriers, including CNA, Travelers, Hartford and PMA Insurance Company, as well as several self-insured companies. Michael was also employed as a trial attorney for a major liability insurance carrier, where he handed all aspects of defense litigation on behalf of their insureds, from inception through trial, in actions arising from motor vehicle accidents and premises liability, dental malpractice and labor law claims.
For the past decade, Michael has represented the interests of national clients. He serves as litigation counsel, defending law suits from the filing of a claim through trial, and leverages that experience to develop risk management materials and training programs to counsel his clients on prevention and mitigation. In addition, Michael acts as supervisory counsel in monitoring litigation being handled by outside firms, which includes the review and revision of billing guidelines and procedures, conducting meetings with general counsel and outside counsel, attending trials and making settlement/reserve recommendations.
Michael began his legal career as corporate counsel for a large regional martial arts corporation. This position served as the springboard for Michael’s interest in and development of risk management programs and initiatives on behalf of his clients.
Michael is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York, as well as the U.S. District Courts of New York and New Jersey. He graduated from Clark University with a B.A. in Sociology/Criminal Justice and Chemistry in 1988 and received his J.D. from Pace University School of Law in 1992.
