Firm Summary
José Silva, Jr, known and referred to by others as “Silva” or “Hey Silva”, graduated from New England Law in Boston, Massachusetts in 1991. During law school, José took various courses in taxation and in the Uniform Commercial Code, working as an intern with the Massachusetts Department of Taxation, as a teaching assistant for a law professor who specialized in the Uniform Commercial Code, and eventually, as a legal intern for the Boston Red Sox.
After graduating from law school, José passed both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bar exams on his first attempt. José worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Francis J. Orlando, Jr., JSC, who also became the Camden County Assignment Judge.
During José’s thirty-plus years as an attorney, he has worked as an Assistant Cumberland County Prosecutor, working in the grand jury, special victim’s unit, juvenile and domestic units, and prosecuting adults who violated the New Jersey Criminal Code. During José’s tenure as an Assistant Prosecutor, he handled many bench trials on a weekly basis and jury trials. His comments after his departure from the Prosecutor’s office are that “he entered as an Assistant Prosecutor as a skinny and scared kid, fed to the wolves and came out like Bruce Lee” because of the training he received.
Some lawyers take on divorce and matrimonial matters because they want to earn a quick buck, but José loves and thrives in handling divorce and matrimonial cases. Whether José handles divorce, custody, or post-judgment divorce matters, his involvement is far from dabbling as other attorneys may do, treating divorce and matrimonial matters as a hobby. He believes everyone deserves their day in court and fervently represents these individuals who otherwise would not withstand battling another attorney by themselves. His divorce practice involves uncontested divorces and hard-fought contested divorce matters, involving issues of limited duration alimony, open duration alimony, rehabilitative alimony, and reimbursement alimony, as well as parenting time, and division of marital assets.
In addition to his matrimonial practice, José represents individuals in municipal court who have been charged with criminal offenses, traffic violations, driving while intoxicated, and city ordinances.
Bankruptcy matters that José is involved in, help individuals who cannot afford to pay extraordinary monthly expenses, that continue to mount each day. Helping these individuals get a fresh start and live happy content lives without being chased by creditors and collection companies brings José and his staff many smiles.
Other areas that José and his staff help others in are preparing Estate documents, such as Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney, and Health care Directives.
Purchasing real estate is common for individuals to retain José’s services, whether it is part of a divorce, relationship break-up, or dissolution of their business entity.
