James W. Pruitt is the founder and president of Pruitt Law Offices, S.C., earning his BA from Marquette University in 1984 and his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1988.
He began practicing as an associate for Muwonge & Associates in 1990. A year later, he transitioned to be the sole practitioner of the Pruitt Law Office. In 1995, he became a partner with Coats, Dye, Foley & Shannon S.C. Three years later, he re-started the Pruitt Law Office, focusing on expanding the practice to include a diverse range of law matters.
In 2014, Attorney Pruitt incorporated to become the Pruitt Law Offices, S.C. In 2015, Attorney Pruitt added Attorney Sally A. Hoelzel to expand and focus on family law matters. Between the two of them, they have forty years of experience with Racine County as guardians ad litem.
In 2019, Attorney Pruitt added Attorney John P. Zabkowicz as an associate to expand the practice to include Medicaid/T-19 Asset protection, Elder Law, Irrevocable Trusts, and Trust administration.
His memberships include the WI State Bar, Racine County Bar, Racine County Guardian ad Litem, State Bar Real Estate Section, State Bar Bankruptcy Section, and State Bar Elder Law Section. Furthermore, he is also a member of the Business Networking International, RAMAC, Racine/Kenosha IP Council, and the Downtown Racine Corporation. Additionally, Jim previously served on the board of directors for St. Catherine’s High School from 2010-2016. A notable award Jim received was the 2016 David Namowicz award from the Women’s Resource Center of Racine Inc. in recognition of pro bono real estate work.
Personal – Having four children, Attorney Pruitt devoted his personal time as a coach throughout his children’s lives in volleyball, basketball, and baseball. He also started the boys’ volleyball program at St. Catherine’s High School, becoming its first head coach and participated as an active member and officer in various parent/teacher associations.
Law Philosophy – In building his practice, he has emphasized the interconnectedness aspects of transactional law for himself. He wanted to prioritize service for real people with everyday needs. Consequently, he provides ip with wills, trusts and power of attorney documents. Probate naturally follows these areas when people pass on. The real estate and bankruptcy practice also helps people with immediate advancement or relief from their financial endeavors. In building the law firm, his purpose has been to add a wide variety of law practice areas to help his clients with most of their legal needs.
