Firm Summary

Barbara has been practicing law in the St. Louis Metro East area for over 30 years.  She concentrates her practice in domestic litigation, real estate law, and general civil practice.

Barb received both her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. During law school, she volunteered with Legal Services, served as a research assistant to Professors Roy Simon and Susan Appleton, and worked at a personal injury law firm.

After receiving her law degree, Barb was a stay-at-home parent for a year, returning to the legal field in 1989 as a law clerk to the Honorable Kent Karohl on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District.  After completing her judicial clerkship, Barb worked as an associate at Lucco, Brown, and Mudge in Edwardsville, Illinois, followed by an appointment to the Madison County State’s Attorney Office as lead attorney in both the Child Support Enforcement and Anti-Domestic Violence Divisions.

Barb opened her own practice in Edwardsville, Illinois 26 years ago, in April, 1993, with a focus on family law. In addition to handling all aspects of family law, Barb has a high success rate with her appellate work and working with clients in relocation actions.

Barb volunteers at several philanthropic organizations in the community, including being a member of the board of the Edwardsville Arts Center.

Sherer Law Offices has grown from a single room in a client’s office in 1993 to four locations with five attorneys and support staff.  Barb is proud to offer legal services not only for family law, but also criminal defense, real estate, general civil litigation, and probate work.  Barb has expanded the firm and services offered in order to address the full scope of her clients’ needs.

While Barbara projects a confident and assertive attitude in the courtroom, her instinctual approach in cases is to attempt a settlement. Her many years of experience have taught her that parties are infinitely happier if they make the decision about the resolution of a case themselves instead of having a Judge decide.
